This is where my role turns to being the MC or Master of Ceremonies. My role is to ensure that the event is introduced in a worthy manner and runs smoothly from start to finish. I have to command the attention of the audience and serve as a genial host. Yes, the audience should like me because I am the person who will be accompanying them through the event introducing star guests and linking up the different parts of the programme. Even if things go wrong I have to be able to cover up mistakes by adlibing so that they do not realise something is not running to plan. This could be the late arrival of the star guest or the p.a. system not working correctly.
Being a professional MC nothing is left to chance! Everything has to be thoroughly prepared in advance. I know who I will be introducing and when. This makes an advance detailled planning with the organizers and a structured agenda very important. But at the same time I have to be creative and flexible .. just in case I have to respond to unexpected problems!
A good event should start in time and finish on time. Inbetween I like to take the audience on a pleasant journey and make them feel well. Not only should the attendees feel that they have profited by being there they should have a good time.
Some examples of my work as an MC;
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer opened the CeBit in Hannover a few years ago. Before doing so leading managers from global players were invited by Microsoft to an exclusive event in the Hardenbergsches House.
At SAP´s Sappire event in Berlin, I took the Scandinavian group on a journey through the past in the legendary Hackeschen Höfen telling the history of these 8 courtyards which were first opened in 1906 and which served as a home for Berlin´s textile industry.
HRH Prince Andrew represents the UK International Trade and Investment organsiation. I introduced him as a very honorable guest to a talk round at the Future Park at the CeBit in Hannover.
